Wrthi’n darfod micsio, ac yn ôl-gynhyrchu wsnos nesaf. Or diwedd, da ni’n bwriadu lansio’r CD mewn cyngerdd yng Nghanolfan Ucheldre ar 12/7/08.

The message we posted last year seems to have a typo It’s now mid-June 2008 and we are mastering the album next week. The CD will be released at a concert at Ucheldre, Holyhead on 12/7/08 - like we said, in July, it’s just that we got the wrong July.

The snail is a wonderful animal, like the tortoise. It reaches its destination eventually - and we will too. This album is taking time because we have many other things to do as well - interruptions abound. But, things are moving along and tracks are being laid - recordings are a kind of snail trail, silvery in the moonlight. Not long now and we will have a finished collection of them.

 Snails are much more poetic than, say, slugs, aren’t they? Poor slugs. They too leave silvery trails. Maybe we should adopt them as a totem animal.

We spent today clearing backlogs and activating dormant patches.

The album should be finished mid-June and we hope to have it released by end of July - yes, 2007. This painting by Maria Hayes will be the cover. The painting’s title is The Reckoning. Our album will be called Spring Always Comes.

Although Pete has recorded some tracks, we’ve decided to leave these until the third album, and have adopted a more minimal approach for this one - more in keeping with what we do live with various combinations of Cass Meurig, John Lawrence and Owen Lloyd-Evans. Joining the five of us will be two of Wales’ most interesting harpists: Llio Rhydderch and Rhodri Davies. And to complete our ‘minimalist’ line up, Alun Tan Lan will be playing banjo and there may even be some clarinet from Edwin Humphreys.

 Hurrah - we started recording this week. This is our friend Pete in glorious action (thanks Pete).

Spent yesterday morning trying to eq the bottom end of the acoustic guitar - got about a third of the way there as can be seen in the photo.

Took a break to check some internet lists. Music making always seems to be quite an unimportant thing to do/the most important thing to do - have been thinking a lot about this lately. Yesterday (the day of qana bombing) I got directed (thanks Pauline at deeplistening.org) to here: Starry Night . Chwara trwy amp - lot o overtones inharmonic o’dd yn neud i’r peth swnio fel clychau - dim yn siwr os oedd hwn i wneud efo’r amp neu efo ‘problem’ efo tant - ella bod o’n fwriadol? Amp Paul hefyd yn gweithio fel sêt - dwi di bod yn meddwl tipyn am y syniad o bob cerddor ddefnyddio amps mewn sefyllfa byw yn lle stereo PA ar gyfer pawb, fel bod lleoliad unigol y cerddor yn cael ei gadw. 

Gorwel 2

Hello! This a a picture of my hammered dulcimer, which I am delighted to have. So thank you to Kathie Drinan in Walsall, who we bought it off and who shed a little tear when it went. I have assured her that it will have a good home with us, and will hopefully be heard on our next album. We have set ourselves the target of getting the album recorded and OUT by this coming Christmas - quite a feat, given the way time runs fast and there is always so much to do that defocuses our intentions.

However, we have tired of hearing ourselves bemoan this fact. I am keen to renegotiate my relationship with time, so that Brother Time and I argue with each other less. It struck me recently - as I said to Gwilym Morus - that here am I, trying to walk a path of non-violence and yet often relating to time in a combative way. You have to live a paced life for peace - as either Alex Wildwood or Ben Pink Dandelion said on the course I went to recently at Woodbrooke, with everything given its due time and attention. Getting our album finished will be a practice in this renegotiating process.

We were planning to release an album in 2004. We told Lisa Gwilym (link above) that we would release it in 2006. To embarrass ourselves into working a little quicker, we are posting our slow process here in the hope that it will be less slow.
