n-face-weDr. Noel G. Charlton has a varied life-time experience in industry and commerce, teaching, self-sufficiency small-holding, environmental activism & rural sociology. With his wife he initiated the Rivendell Community – a residential community in Cumbria which offered short periods of residence to some 1200 people in need of respite from stress. In the later community years he commenced environmental and philosophical study with Schumacher College, Devon and the Institute for Environment, Philosophy and Public Policy, University of Lancaster, studying with many world leaders in environmental philosophy. This work has led to a specialism in the work of Gregory Bateson – a profound thinker, critically important in relation to our present ecological extremity. Charlton most recent book is Understanding Gregory Bateson: Mind, Beauty, and the Sacred Earth (publisher website here: http://www.sunypress.edu/details.asp?id=61624).

“This is a publishing event of the first order: an incomparably lucid exploration of Bateson’s unique insights into the nature of mind and of the living Earth. Noel Charlton’s book, both elegant and accessible, sheds new light on Bateson’s revolutionary relevance to our time.” — Joanna Macy

Joan Poulson is a poet & children’s writer. She has collaborated with artists across genres and has held several land art residencies, enjoying work where she could celebrate her love of nature: by the ocean in California, in the high desert of New Mexico, villages of south India & in country parks, rural regions of the U.K. Her most recent publication is a pamphlet with drawings in Japanese water-colour by Elizabeth Stuart-Smith (Flarestack 2008). Joan is currently working on a full collection of poetry for adults. Poulson’s work has a crystalline density that is unusual – Andrea Moorhead. (OSIRIS. Mae Dr. Noel G. Charlton gyda phrofiad eang yn niwydiant a masnach, addysg, hunangynhaliaeth tyddyn, ymgyrchu amgylcheddol a chymdeithaseg wledig. Gyda’i wraig, sefydlodd Rivendell Community lle cynigwyd amseroedd preswyl byr i thua 1200 o bobl a oedd angen seibiant o straen. Yn hwyrach ymlaen ym mywyd y gymuned fe gychwynnodd astudiaethau amgylcheddol ac athronyddol gyda Schumacher College, Dyfnant, a’r Institute for Environment, Philosophy and Public Policy ym Mhrifysgol Lancaster; astudiodd gyda llawer o arweinyddion y byd mewn athroniaeth amgylcheddol. Dilynodd hyn at arbenigaeth yng ngwaith Gregory Bateson – meddyliwr dwys, sy’n hynod o bwysig yng nghyd-destun eithafion ecolegol ein presennol. Llyfr diweddaraf Charlton yw Understanding Gregory Bateson: Mind, Beauty, and the Sacred Earth (Gwefan y cyhoeddwyr: http://www.sunypress.edu/details.asp?id=61624).

Meddai Joanna Macy ‘This is a publishing event of the first order: an incomparably lucid exploration of Bateson’s unique insights into the nature of mind and of the living Earth. Noel Charlton’s book, both elegant and accessible, sheds new light on Bateson’s revolutionary relevance to our time’.

Mae Joan Poulson yn fardd ac awdur plant. Mae hi wedi cydweithio ag artistiaid o sawl genre, wedi dal swydd breswyl yn ymwneud â chelfyddyd tir; yn mwynhau gwaith lle mae’n gallu dathlu ei chariad tuag at natur: wrth y cefnfor yng Nghaliffornia, yn anialwch uchel New Mexico, pentrefi yn Ne India ac ym mharciau gwledig, ardaloedd sefn gwlad y D.U. Ei chyhoeddiad diweddaraf yw phamffled gyda dyluniadau dyfrlliw Siapaneaidd gan Elizabeth Stuart-Smith (Flarestack 2008). Mae Joan, ar hyn o’r bryd, yn gweithio ar gasgliad llawn o farddoniaeth ar gyfer oedolion. Meddai Andrea Moorhead ‘Poulson’s work has a crystalline density that is unusual’ (OSIRIS. U.S.A.). http://www.poetrypf.co.uk/joanpoulsonpage.html
